Azukari Dream 2017 – Video of the Koi.

The last couple of days we have been selecting the Tosai which we will be growing in our very own mudpond over the Summer of 2017 in Niigata, Japan.

These are Koi we want to develop over this period. They are already 35-40cm in size and only 9months. We have picked mainly Sanke because Shintaro Koi Farm are best known for producing some excellent Sanke but now also breeds some super Showa and Kohaku, so there are some too.

For all the information please check out this page, Azukari Dream 2017

Over the last 3 years we have picked Tosai at this time of year and they have turned out really good, its very difficult because what we do not want it to pick finished Koi, that is not the point, so its not about looking for finished Koi, we can find and buy them anytime we want. What we are looking for now are Koi that will develop. So we are looking at the beni pattern, then the sumi placement and where the underlying Sumi is coming through, you will see blue coloured patches on the White, we want to see good balance, thats most important at this stage.

The skin, sumi and beni quality will all develop, these are picked from Koi that Shintaro would have keeped himself to grow. These Koi will be looked after and fed throughout Summer which is a big effort, these are all excellent Tosai, that would always have been growing here.

I have done video as you can see better how the fish swims and the body style etc.

There are some wonderful Koi here but please look at the future and what/how they will develop like. Its not easy but its a great challenge.

I have added 30 Pieces onto the website today, we will only be adding 20 pieces to the Mudpond plus a couple of extra, so maximum of 22 piece will go into the pond.
